The British Academy congratulates Emma Andrew on winning a two-week scholarship to Oxford Royale Academy Summer 2017.
Emma will be studying film in the UK after winning a two-week scholarship to Oxford Royale Academy.
Emma, aged 16, is a student at the British Academy, and was chosen from a strong pool of Trinidadian and regional students who applied for a full scholarship at the prestigious summer school, which includes daily lessons in advanced subjects and a variety of excursions around the UK to supplement students’ learning.
Emma will study film this summer with other young people from around the world.
“When I received the letter of acceptance, I couldn’t believe my eyes, and my heart was racing. I thought a mistake had been made and so I asked my sister, Monique who was in the same room, to re-read the email. Up to this day with only a few weeks until I go to Oxford, it still hasn’t dawned on me that it is actually going to happen.”
Emma first became interested in film when…… she researched videos online on how films were made and all the behind the scenes and movie magic that created horror films. She loves to see the process behind making a story come to life through film.
After finishing high school, Emma hopes to explore the film industry as the film academy will have given her more options and open her opportunities into to different fields.
