Pta Update

The British Academy PTA is pleased to be able to have an avenue in which we can keep the Parent Body updated on our events and progress – we shall be posting our news on a regular basis in the School Newspaper “The Band”.

As you know over the past three (3) years we have worked hard at managing several fund raising events, both one-off and on going. We are most grateful to all of the parents who have supported us in one way or another!

We are pleased to be able to provide a full listing of all the items we have been able to provide for the school in our efforts to assist the Administration in enhancing all aspects of our children’s school life, these items include:

• Classroom Lockers
• 2009 Anti Virus updates for each computer in the school
• Burglar Alarm System supply and installation
• Fire Alarm System supply and installation
• Ten (10) Music Stands
• Ten (10) Medicine Balls
• Computer and Server for ICT Room
• Keyboard
• Percussion Instruments
• Guard Booth
• 2009 Prize Giving & Graduation Decorating Costs
• Graduation Stoles
• Outdoor PA System with speakers and wireless microphone
• School Flag, UK Flag and flag pole

These items have cost over $82,000 in all and we are most grateful to you all. The funding for these items has come from your contributions to the regular Tuck Shop Days, Annual PTA Fees, Walk-A-Thons and Sports Days.

We look forward to your continued support in making the British Academy one of the most successful schools in the country, where our children are encouraged to grow and learn not only academic skills, but also self discipline, ethics and moral skills that will carry them through their lives.

Please note that the PTA Annual General Meeting will be held in September 2010, at which time a new Executive will be elected for the next School Year – we look forward to seeing you all there and will advise you of the exact date at the beginning of next Term.

Have a safe and wonderful Summer Holiday!

Asante Le Blanc

Sports Digest

The British Academy’s football team has been enjoying a great of success this term with a number of victories against teams such as CIC and Red Star Kickers.

The school’s annual sports day was a huge success this year as the students and parents enjoyed the event thoroughly. The Shackleton house (Green house) emerged victorious as it dethroned the 2009 champions, Livingston (Blue House).

Students are always very hard working during the Physical Education sessions and this level of dedication is a true indication of their quest for excellence.

Did you know?

The British Curriculum has been developed over a number of years and is constantly being updated to reflect the needs of pupils, educators and indeed employers. The latest revision was made in 2008. The aim - as always - is to produce a curriculum that helps all pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. The new curriculum introduces pupils to the key concepts and essential skills in any subject. It maintains the best of the past while allowing teachers to design learning that develops the wider skills for life and the challenges that face society.

The curriculum is specifically intended to help young people to make better progress and therefore achieve high standards. They need to be challenged and stretched to achieve their potential, becoming independent learners through personal, learning and thinking skills.

The curriculum is divided into two areas of study Key Stage 3 for Forms 1 through 3 and Key Stage 4 for Forms 4 and 5 leading to GCSE qualifications.

More information and details of the curriculum pertaining to individual subjects can be found at: www.qcda.gov.uk
